NAPLAN results show widespread literacy, numeracy improvement

The release of the NAPLAN results from 2015 has shown students across Australia have improved their literacy and numeracy skills.

Schools across Australia have shown improvement in literacy and numeracy, the latest NAPLAN results reveal.

The results showed students from schools in every state had received above average results in independent, government and faith-based schools.

The high-performing schools included Holy Spirit Catholic College in Lakemba in Sydney's western suburbs, Oxley Christian College in Chirnside Park, Victoria, O'Loughlin Catholic College in Karama, Northern Territory and Lobethal Primary School in Lobethal, South Australia.

NAPLAN tests are designed to measure the literacy and numeracy abilities of students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9 and are conducted by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA).

The results of 2015's tests were published on the My School website on Wednesday.

“My School provides readily accessible information about Australian schools to allow educators to share information about school achievements, with the aim of supporting and driving improvement across the nation,” ACARA chief executive Robert Randall said.

“For parents, the site provides valuable information to help them make informed decisions about their child’s education.”

ACARA declined to provide SBS News with a list of the most improved schools, but did provide a selection of some of the schools from each state and territory that had returned above average results.
