Versailles has returned for its third and final season with the introduction of the character we've all been waiting to see. Throughout the season, we watch as King Louis XIV further grow his power, despite new challenges. Series star George Blagden told Variety that "“The complexity of Season three is: Once you’ve got everything you wanted, how do you sustain that happiness? If it can even be called happiness.”
As with previous seasons, eyebrows have been raised over just how steamy the content in the third season of the show is. UK tabloid offers an explicit blow-by-blow of the saucy material in the first few episodes of the season, quoting a 'TV Insider': “It gives a real and incredibly steamy insight into just how sex-mad everyone was in King Louis’ court.”

The opening scene
The first moments of the season do a great job of setting up the season. The narration tells us: "Some secrets bring with them release, redemption... but others are buried deep within the earth. Never to be found." Visually we watch a man riding by horseback, arriving at the Bastille, the hooded man reveals himself as the King's valet, Alexandre Bontemps. He's there to see a man held captive. A man wearing... an iron mask.
The character we have all been waiting for.
