The first season of The Girlfriend Experience was ‘a think-piece powder keg’. Its protagonist, law student and sex worker, Christine Reade (Riley Keough) was what you'd get 'if you could combine Peggy Olson and Don Draper from Mad Men’.

But season two leaves Christine behind, and introduces characters just as compelling in a completely new format, with two completely different storylines.

The first follows Erica Myles (Anna Friel) and Anna Greenwald (Louisa Krause) in the high-powered world of Washington, DC during the 2018 US mid-term elections. The second focusses on Bria Jones (Carmen Ejogo) who’s hiding out in a witness protection program in New Mexico with her estranged step-daughter Kayla Fairchild (Morgana Davies) and US Marshal Ian Olsen (Tunde Adebimpe) who’s charged with protecting them.

Each of the 14 episodes runs the stories in parallel.

In the first storyline, strong-willed Republican finance director Erica hires Anna to help blackmail a fundraiser of dark money for details of his donor network. The murky political undertakings are further complicated by a sexual relationship that develops between Erica and Anna.

Meanwhile, in the desert, Bria, who’s waiting to testify in a trial against the abuser she’s hiding from, against all advice to blend in, resumes her work as a 'girlfriend', putting not only herself, but her step-daughter and government protector, at risk.

Carmen Ejogo, who plays Bria, , “It’s not just the viewing experience that is the part that’s satisfying, it’s the conversation that will come out of it”.

Season 2 ofThe Girlfriend Experience airs Monday nights with double episodes at 10:00pm on SBS VICELAND. After they air, episodes will be available at .

Episode 1 - Leverage (Erica)

Episode 2 - Admitting (Bria)
