How much does journalist Jessica Rowe know about cats? How much is there to ask about mangoes… and how much of it will comedian Nazeem Hussain remember in the glare of the Mastermind spotlight? And which celeb is tackling Star Trek as his special subject?

Australia’s toughest quiz show is back, and this time high-profile Australians are taking a seat in the spotlight. Celebrity Mastermind will put 16 famous faces to the test on their chosen topic – and you could have a ring-side seat to see the action unfold. Or would you like to test your own knowledge on a topic? SBS is giving you the chance to join the Mastermind audience or be a contender yourself.

First, those celebs and their special topics… The new season of Celebrity Mastermind starts filming on January 30 and you could be there as Jennifer Byrne tests the 16 on their knowledge of their chosen topic. So far, we can reveal the first eight well-loved Australians who will be battling it out for the tile.

They are legendary drag queen Courtney Act (special topic: TV series The Nanny); journalist and author Jessica Rowe (domestic cat breeds); cook and television host Adam Liaw (Asian cuisine); author and comedian Adam Spencer (Great mathematicians of the 20th century); journalist and personality Marc Fennell (Star Trek: The Next Generation)comedian and writer Alex Lee (rats) and comedians Sam Simmons (The Slow Loris) and Nazeem Hussain (mangoes). Look out for an announcement of the other eight contenders soon. 

The new series of Celebrity Mastermind will be filmed at SBS in Sydney on:

30 January 2020 - Celebrity Episodes 1 & 2

11 February 2020 - Celebrity Episode 3 & 4

25 February 2020 - CELEBRITY GRAND FINAL

You’ll need good general knowledge as well as an in-depth grasp of your favourite subject. As to that favourite subject, Mastermind tackles almost anything – the very first winner, Nancy Wilkinson back in 1972, did French literature, European antiques and the history of music 1550-1900, and in the years that followed, contestants have taken on everything from Blackadder to bees.
