The Fifth Element
Luc Besson’s 1997 film has quickly become a cult favourite over the past two decades. Bruce Willis stars as military man-turned-cab driver Korben Dallas, who is by chance thrust into a world-saving, galaxy-spanning adventure after picking up Milla Jovovich’s Leeloo, the titular Fifth Element and humanity’s last hope. This science fiction film has everything: comedy, romance, action, costumes by Jean Paul Gaultier and a space opera.
Léon: The Professional
We continue with another of Luc Besson’s cult hits. Léon (Jean Reno) lives a lonely life in New York, working as a professional hitman for the mob. Near silent and utterly ruthless, Léon doesn’t seem to possess an ounce of humanity. But when his 12-year-old neighbour, Mathilda (Natalie Portman), arrives home to find her entire family massacred by a drug dealer (Gary Oldman), Léon takes her in and, as per her request, teaches her the tools of his trade so she can exact her revenge on her family’s killer. Hurry, it’s only available until 30 May.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trilogy
Cowabunga! Grab some pizza and settle in for the trilogy of this 90s classic that’s bodacious, bitchin’, gnarly and totally tubular, dude. Four teenage mutant ninja turtles emerge from the shadows to protect New York City from a gang of criminal ninjas. Trained by their mentor in ninjitsu, they must learn to work together to face the menace of Shredder and the Foot Clan.
Parasite
Making Academy Awards history in 2020, this film is thought-provoking and certainly lives up to the hype. All unemployed, Ki-taek’s family takes peculiar interest in the wealthy and glamorous Parks for their livelihood until they get entangled in an unexpected incident.
