Don't expect to sleep this October with some of the scariest movies ever made now streaming

SBS has curated a collection of great horror movies that will have you asking "Why did I press play on this?" before you start sobbing, screaming, and pressing play on the next horror film.

Cancel all of your plans this October - especially if your plans included getting any sleep. SBS On Demand has plans to keep you up at night watching an outstanding collection of horror films throughout the month, followed by hours watching the door to make sure no one (or thing) is getting in.

With over 50 great horror films carefully curated to ensure you'll want to call your mum for help, . Below is a taste of what you can expect to find screaming streaming throughout the month, but just quietly between you and I, you'll also find some great surprises like It Follows, Let The Right One In, Pisasu, Evil Dead 2, and Hellraiser added throughout October.

Expect modern and classic thrills, home grown Aussie horror, scary as all heck foreign films, and more vampires, werewolves, and zombies than you will know what to do with.

Halloween

On one particularly fraught-filled Halloween night, young Michael Myers brutally slaughtered his sister, terrifying a community and beginning a legacy of terror. Institutionalized for 15 years, Michael breaks out to fulfill his insatiable bloodlust. The only person who understands the murderer behind the mask is psychiatrist Dr. Sam Loomis, who knows Michael is coming back to Haddonfield to wreak havoc and spill blood in the long dark shadows of Halloween.

Bite

While on her bachelorette party getaway, Casey, the bride to be, gets a seemingly harmless bite from an unknown insect. After returning home with cold feet, Casey tries to call off her wedding but before she's able to, she starts exhibiting insect like traits. Between her physical transformation and her wedding anxiety, Casey succumbs to her new instincts and begins creating a hive that not only houses her translucent eggs, but feeds on the flesh of others. As her transformation becomes complete, Casey discovers that everything can change with a single bite.

It Follows

A critically acclaimed supernatural psychological horror film starring Maika Monroe (Independence Day) and Keir Gilchrist (United States of Tara). For 19-year-old Jay (Monroe), the fall should be about school, boys and weekends at the lake. Yet after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter she suddenly finds herself plagued by nightmarish visions; she can't shake the sensation that someone, or something, is following her. As the threat closes in, Jay and her friends must somehow escape the horrors that are only a few steps behind.

Green Room

Down-on-their-luck punk rockers, The Ain't Rights, agree to a last-minute gig in a backwards Oregon roadhouse. They soon find themselves caught in the crosshairs of a violent white-supremacist gang. After finishing their set in the no-name skinhead club, the band members stumble upon a grisly murder scene and are targeted by a ruthless club owner and his henchmen, determined to eliminate all witnesses. Hopelessly outmanned and outgunned, the terrified musicians barricade themselves backstage to buy time for an escape attempt. As a heavily armed militia mounts a deadly assault, the survivors pull together in a last-ditch effort, surprising their opponents with enexpected ingenuity and courage.

Vampyros Lesbos

Count Dracula's descendant, Nadine Countess Korody, entices young women to her isolated island, then seduces and kills them in order to remain young. A lawyer, Linda Westinghouse, becomes fascinated with Nadine, when visiting her about an inheritance from the Dracula family. Linda becomes her newest victim, giving her blood to Nadine, but now she must try and save herself from joining the vampire world forever.

Bride Of Re-Animator

Doctors Herbert West and Dan Cain discover the secret to creating human life and proceed to create a perfect woman from dead tissue.

Body Melt

In this gory, tongue-in-cheek horror film, a mad scientist has developed a vitamin pill with horrendous side effects. Soon the inhabitants of an entire Melbourne suburb are experiencing ghastly symptoms – hallucinations, splitting throats, exploding stomachs and body meltdowns. Directed by Philip Brophy and stars Gerard Kennedy, Andrew Daddo, Ian Smith, Matthew Newtown and Lisa McCune.

100 Bloody Acres

This Aussie horror gem stars Damon Herriman and Angus Sampson as two South Australian brothers running an organic fertiliser business, 'Blood and Bone', and whose secret ingredient – dead car crash victims – soon comes in short supply. When Reg comes across three young people stranded on a remote road on their way to a music festival, he sees a radical solution to their supply problems, and a way of finally gaining the respect of his big brother, Lindsay. But things don't quite go to plan when Reg becomes attracted to one of his captives, Sophie.

The Horde

A group of Parisian policemen embark on a mission of vengeance after one of their colleagues dies at the hands of a notorious drug dealer holed up inside a condemned high-rise in the heart of a derelict Paris neighbourhood. The operation is a failure and the team is captured. Suddenly, zombies.

Dead Ringers

Body horror master David Cronenberg explores transformation and mutation in this disturbing classic. Inspired by true events, it tells the story of identical twin gynaecologists - both played brilliantly by Jeremy Irons, whose relationship deteriorates when Beverly, the most sensitive of the twins, starts falling for a patient with whom they'd both been sleeping.
