Actor Taron Egerton and Sir Elton John were visibly emotional following the premiere of musical biopic Rocketman, which debuted at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival.
Screening on the second day of the festival, the film reportedly received a four-minute standing ovation, with director Dexter Fletcher telling the audience: “We’re all blown away by your response.”
Speaking to ahead of the premiere, Sir Elton John anticipated that emotions would be high on the night, saying: “It’s definitely going to be a no-mascara night.”
He added that he'd grown close to the cast, which includes actors Richard Madden and Jamie Bell, and would be expanding on the film's story in his forthcoming autobiography.
“There’s so much that’s happened in my life, and it’s hard to fit it all in within the film,” he said.
Egerton has previously spoken about his experience shooting the film, saying he enjoyed the "electric" experience of sharing sex scenes with Richard Madden.
“The rawness of that experience, the fear of that experience, but also the joy of the experience of Elton’s first kiss… it’s electric, it’s exciting, your stomach is doing somersaults,” he added.
