Ricky Martin has been cast in the third instalment of Ryan Murphy's FX series American Crime Story, which will centre around the Versace family.

Versace: American Crime Story will focus on the murder of hugely influential fashion designer, Gianni Versace. Martin will play Antonio D'Amico, who was Gianni's romantic partner for 15 years, up until Versace's highly-publicised murder in 1997.

The designer was murdered by serial killer Andrew Cunanan, a sex worker who was known to have killed at least five people in a three-month period in 1997, including Versace. He died by suicide, shortly after Versace's death.
D'Amico had a strained relationship with Versace's family, particularly his sister Donatella. She said in 1999, “My relationship with Antonio is exactly as it was when Gianni was alive. I respected him as the boyfriend of my brother, but I never liked him as a person. So the relationship stayed the same".

In Versace: American Crime Story, Donatella Versace will be played by Penelope Cruz - this was a shock casting, as it had been long-rumoured that the role would be taken by Lady Gaga. The role of Gianni Versace will be played by 'Zero Dark Thirty' star Edgar Ramirez, and Andrew Cunanan will be played by Glee star Darren Criss.
The season will follow the show's premiere season The People Vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, and the upcoming second season Katrina: American Crime Story.

Versace: American Crime Story is set to begin production this month, and will premiere in 2018.
