Traditional Owner fronts movie star Leonardo DiCaprio at COP26

Karanjini Gundanji woman Rikki Dank prompted the actor to speak with First Nations women about fracking on their Country.

A First Nations woman has taken her plea against fracking directly to movie star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Rikki Dank is a Karanjini Gundanji woman who has campaigned against the environmentally damaging practice. 

As the Hollywood star arrived on the second day of the COP26 conference in Glasgow, Dank took the opportunity to spread her message to the famous environmentalist. 

In video footage, she can clearly be heard appealing to DiCaprio.

"Leo, talk to Indigenous women in Australia about fracking on their land!" she said

"The government just gave $50million to frack their Country. The Australian government is fracking their land!"

The star did not appear to take notice of Dank's pleas amongst the media scrum, with Dank eventually ushered away by security. 

The government announced the grants to expedite gas exploration in the Northern Territory's Beetaloo Basin in December last year. 

So far, $21 million has been awarded to three separate projects by corporation Imperial Oil and Gas. 

Yanyuwa woman and senator Malarndirri McCarthy has questioned the process behind the awarding of the grants.
