More than 40 West Australians spent Thursday night at an evacuation centre after an out of control bushfire raged east of the coastal town of Rockingham, around 50 kilometres south of Perth.
Around 180 firefighters battled the blaze, which has since burnt through around 1200 hectares of land between the outer suburbs of Baldivis and Casuarina.
Unconfirmed reports claimed a car towing a boat sparked the fire, after a wheel fell off the boat trailer as it travelled along a road in the area.
A watch and act warning is currently in place in the area and emergency services authorities said a threat to lives and homes remained.
Firefighters remain concerned that forecasted worsening conditions will cause the fire to break containment lines and send the front in the direction of the city's major freeway.
Highway Reopened
Elsewhere in the state, the Eyre Highway and Coolgardie-Esperance Highway have been reopened after almost two weeks of closure.
The Eyre Highway, which is the only highway connecting Western Australia to South Australia, has been closed for the past 12 days due to a large bushfire burning in the Goldfield's region.
There have been reports of food shortages in a number of towns and in surrounding areas due to the road closure.
On Tuesday, people stranded at the Caiguna Roadhouse, located 350 kilometres from the SA-WA border, were finally able to leave after police escorted them away from the fire and down south to the coastal town of Esperance, over 700 kilometres south-east of Perth.
Main Roads WA has reopened the route in both directions between Norseman and Caiguna, warning drivers to proceed along Eyre Highway with caution due to the impact of fires and smoke over the road.
