Inspiring song celebrates Indigenous activist Rosalie Kunoth-Monks

One of the country’s most renowned Aboriginal rights activists, Rosalie Kunoth-Monks, has been honoured with a powerfully emotive tribute song posted on YouTube on Sunday.

Composed by Paul "Nultatjarra" Dixon, the YouTube video opens with an image of the 2015 NIADOC Person of the Year on ABC's Q&A panel where she passionately spoke against the government's stance on Indigenous affairs in 2014.

“She Came Along” features the didgeridoo and broaches the English "invasion", "women-speak-out-for-treaty" protests, Ms Kunoth-Monk’s ongoing fight for Indigenous rights and the rejection by her own community, Utopia.

The inspirational music plays alongside photos of the actress protesting and also sitting beside the former PM Malcolm Fraser.

Towards the end of the video, an image of the activist and non-voter Callum Dixon-Clayton with his Aboriginal passport also appears on screen to music.

Ms Kunoth-Monks has been outspoken on the issue of de-funding outstations in Western Australia and what she sees as the "neglect" of Aboriginal people by the government.

She was made a National Finalist for the Australian of the Year award earlier this year.

The activist was born in 1937 at Utopia Cattle Station (Arapunya) in the Northern Territory.

Ms Kunoth-Monks played 'Jedda' in the 1955 Australian classic film, clearing the way for other Indigenous actresses to follow, and challenging stereotypes held of Indigenous women.
