West Australian Premier Mark McGowan says he is confident the expansion of virtual horse and greyhound racing at betting outlets will not pose the same gambling problem as poker machines.
The state government is planning to privatise the WA TAB, with previous estimations valuing it between $200 million and $1 billion, and 35 per cent of the sale proceeds will go towards a dedicated racing infrastructure fund.
"Poker machines are an evil in the eastern states. We're not allowing those in any shape or form and we never will. This just allows racing to compete," he told reporters on Wednesday.
