'This election is so mean': SNL spoofs Trump and Clinton for last time before US election

Alec Baldwin and Kate McKinnon have broken character in their last Saturday Night Live Trump and Clinton spoof to critique the election campaign - that is, after Trump made out with Valdimir Putin.

Saturday Night Live has sent its final US election missive, with its Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton actors breaking character to discuss how "mean" the election had been.

But not before they featured Trump, aka Alec Baldwin, kissing an FBI agent, Russian President Valdimir Putin and a Ku Klux Klan supporter and had one last go at Mrs Clinton's emails.

The final episode before Tuesday's presidential election featured CNN reporter Erin Burnett doggedly grilling Mrs Clinton about her use of a private email server while in the background Mr Trump locked lips with the FBI, President Putin and the KKK.

"Am I crazy, or does it kind of seem like the FBI is trying to get Donald Trump elected as president?" McKinnon, playing Mrs Clinton, said.

"No no, that is crazy coo-coo, the FBI is not trying to help me, the FBI doesn't like me, I mean, what even is the FBI," Baldwin, playing Mr Trump, responded.

An 'FBI agent' then appeared and offered to get Mr Trump a coffee before leaving with a kiss on the lips.

Mr Trump was then challenged with his links to President Putin and the KKK, each time denying his links before sharing a kiss.

Each time Mrs Clinton tried to draw attention to Trump's behaviour and each time the interview was drawn back to the emails, much to her frustration.

And then the skit suddenly changed as Baldwin broke character.

"I'm sorry Kate, I just hate yelling all this stuff at you like this," he said.

"I know right, this whole election has been so mean," McKinnon said, also breaking her character.

"I feel gross all the time, don't you guys feel gross all the time about this," Baldwin replied, to audience applause.

Baldwin and McKinnon then ran from the studio, hugging people on the streets of New York: Mr Trump embracing people of ethnic background, Mrs Clinton reluctantly cuddling up to Trump supporters.

But the episode finished on a serious note.

"And now it's time to get out there and vote," Bladwin said.

"None of this will have mattered if you don't get out there and vote."

"We can't tell you who to vote for, but on Tuesday, we all get to choose what kind of country we want to live in," McKinnon said.
