Ken Bone's task was simple - about energy policy during the second US presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump on Monday.
Whether it was his verbal delivery, bright red cardigan, or the moustache, Bone became an overnight sensation on social media, with several superlatives thrown his way.
A fan page has already attracted more than 6,000 followers, while a is calling on him to be given his own star on the St Louis Walk of Fame.
Bone discussed his new found fame with CNN the day after the debate.
"I went from, last night, having seven Twitter followers, two of which were my grandmother ... to now, I have several hundred," he said.
"And I don't know why they care what I have to say, but I'm glad they're engaged in the political process.
"I'm really glad that so much attention has come my way, if for no other reason than I can get the message out that your voice can be heard, and please get out and vote in November. If you feel like your vote doesn't matter, it does. Make your voice heard."
The endorsement on social media has been huge, with several people complementing his fashion choices and use of a disposable camera following the debate.
