Silk, Wade strike Shield runs for Tassie

Tasmania built an imposing total on day two of the Sheffield Shield match against NSW in Hobart, with Jordan Silk and Matthew Wade amongst the runs.

Jordan Silk's fifth first-class century and a Matthew Wade cameo have put Tasmania in a strong position at stumps on day two of their Sheffield Shield clash with NSW at Bellerive Oval.

The Tigers were sent in under gloomy Hobart skies on Monday morning after wild rain wiped out the opening day's play and went on to compile 4-392 by stumps.

It didn't faze Silk, who hit 104 against a four-strong NSW pace battery containing former Test seamers Doug Bollinger and Trent Copeland.

Test discard Matthew Wade smashed an unbeaten 72 off 68 balls late in the day while there were also handy contributions from George Bailey (71) and Jake Doran (75).

In his first score of note this Shield season, Wade smacked the attack to all corners, hitting nine fours and a six.

"It freed him up being in that situation, and not coming in when we're under pressure," Silk said.

"That could be the blueprint going forward. He's at his best when he's playing his shots."

Tasmania, who are chasing rare back-to-back wins after victory over South Australia last round, are best-placed to push for a result with two days to play.

Silk shared a 92-run opening run stand with Alex Doolan (42) - the pair stone-walled at fewer than two runs an over through an extended morning session.

The 25-year-old was 96 not out at tea and brought up first hundred in four years shortly after the break.

"It has been a long time," Silk said.

"The ball was almost doing a bit too much in that first session. Thankfully when we did get edges they went to ground."

Silk was trapped in front by an inswinging yorker from Bollinger (2-82).

The big quick had Tigers' skipper Bailey caught behind six overs later to leave the home side at 3-232.

But Wade combined with Doran in a 141-run stand to take the game away from NSW.

Blues skipper Moises Henriques was a late withdrawal in a NSW side looking to cement their position at the top of the Shield table heading into a two-month first-class hiatus.
