Singer Jessica Mauboy has welcomed in Australia Day by singing a lofty rendition of the national anthem atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Dressed in a bright red dress Ms Mauboy belted out the national anthem in the indigenous language before repeating it in English from the blustery heights of the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Both the Australian and Aboriginal flags were raised together as she sang the anthems at 134 metres above the harbour.

Ms Mauboy's heartfelt delivery sounded out across the harbour just before 8am on a cloudy Tuesday morning.

The indigenous version was a medley of local Sydney dialects, Australia Day organisers said.

It is a big day for the singer from the Northern Territory as Ms Mauboy will be closing out the city's celebrations on Tuesday night at a sold-out concert at the Sydney Opera House forecourt.

"Performing on this very bridge is everything really," the ARIA award-winning singer said.

"There's nothing better. There's not a better stage than this," Ms Mauboy told Network Seven from the top of the famous Australian bridge on Tuesday.
