How Aussies have improved since Hobart

Conditions in Port Elizabeth are offering South Africa's pacemen plenty of assistance, as was the case in Hobart during 2016.

COMPARE THE PAIR OF BATTING PERFORMANCES IN TOUGH CONDITIONS

HOBART (2ND TEST OF 2016-17 SERIES) * David Warner was the first wicket to fall. The vice-captain attempted to hammer a wide delivery from Vernon Philander for a boundary in the first over, with Ricky Ponting calling it "reckless". * Australia 5-17 after 12.5 overs. * Australia all out for 85 in 32.5 overs. * South Africa claimed an unassailable 2-0 series lead. * Rod Marsh resigned as chairman of selectors and five players were dropped from the XI.

PORT ELIZABETH (2ND TEST OF 2018 SERIES) * David Warner reined in his natural aggression and surviving a testing new-ball examination from Philander. Warner's first boundary came in the 15th over. * Australia 0-18 after 12.5 overs. * Australia 2-110 after 32.5 overs. * Australia are shooting for a 2-0 series lead. * Trevor Hohns hasn't recently had much to worry about. If it wasn't for Mitchell Starc's injury-enforced omission in Melbourne, Australia would have featured the same XI in five straight Tests.
