A 66-year-old Hobart man is the latest Tasmanian to contract meningococcal disease, prompting renewed warning from health authorities.
The Claremont man, who is being treated at the Royal Hobart Hospital, is the sixth case of the disease recorded in the state this year.
"The man's close contacts are currently being managed by public health to minimise the chance of further infections," Tasmania's director of public health Mark Veitch said in a statement on Friday.
"The strain of the disease has yet to be determined."
It comes a week after the government announced free vaccinations for all Tasmanians under the age of 21.
The first public vaccination clinic will be held at the Derwent Entertainment Centre this weekend.
