Funding for Tas hospitals under pressure

The Tasmanian government has committed $1.5 million to help relieve pressure on emergency departments at hospitals in Hobart and Launceston.

Tasmania's two major hospitals have been given an extra $1.5 million from the state government to relieve pressure on their struggling emergency departments.

Reports of nurse and doctor understaffing and the ramping of ambulances have for months plagued the Royal Hobart Hospital and Launceston General Hospital.

"This package will immediately relieve pressure on these hospitals' emergency departments by delivering more support for frontline staff and improving patient flow," Health Minister Michael Ferguson said on Wednesday.
