Australia have been left to lament a contentious DRS call as South Africa smacked 5-320 in their one-day series decider in Hobart on Sunday.
Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis and David Miller hit centuries in a 252-run fourth-wicket stand, the biggest ODI partnership by any country against Australia.
But it could have been different if not for a controversial review.
Glenn Maxwell trapped Miller in front for 41 in the 33rd over, with umpire Aleem Dar raising the finger.
Miller and du Plessis decided to review after a lengthy deliberation that appeared to take longer than the allowed 15-second window.
Replays indicate the pair took about 18 seconds to challenge the decision.
"He was going, he was about to walk off, he was walking off," Shane Warne said of Miller during television commentary.
Ball-tracking showed the ball narrowly travelling over the top of the stumps and Miller was called back to the crease.
He went on to hit 139, with du Plessis reaching 125.
The pair were both given lives in the field by an Australian side that sent the Proteas in and had them wobbling at 3-55 in the 16th over.
Wicketkeeper Alex Carey dropped du Plessis on 29 in the 27th over, a simple caught-behind off Maxwell's spin.
Miller then had another lifeline in the over after the contentious review when Aaron Finch was unable to reach a skied ball off Mitchell Starc.
