Men's hockey star Tom Craig has been stripped of his Olympic athlete privileges by the Australian Olympic Committee after his shock arrest in Paris for buying cocaine.

The background: The Paris Public Prosecutor's office said Craig was arrested after officers saw him try to buy cocaine in the 9th arrondissement.

Key quote: "My actions are my own and by no way reflect the values of my family, my teammates, my friends, the sport and the Australian Olympic team. I have embarrassed you all and I'm truly sorry." — Australian Olympic hockey player Tom Craig.
What else to know: Both Australia's hockey teams were eliminated at the quarter-final stage before attending a function at their hotel on Tuesday.

What happens next? Chef de Mission of the Australian Olympic team Anna Meares issued a statement late on Wednesday saying Craig could take no further part in the Games and has moved out of the Olympic village.

Meares said Craig did not intend to return for the closing ceremony but would not be allowed to attend if he did.
