The New South Wales government has added the site of an historic Indigenous massacre in southwestern Sydney to the State Heritage Register. At least 14 people from the Dharawal tribe, including children, were killed in an attack ordered by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in April 1816 as they camped near the banks of the Cataract River. It is seen as one of the earliest and most traumatic frontier conflict events between First Nations people and European settlers in early Australian history.

The UN Economic and Social Council have voted to immediately oust Iran from the UN's premiere global body over its systematic violation of the rights of women and girls. The resolution was sparked by Iran's continued harsh crackdown on peaceful protesters who took to the streets in September after the death of a 22-year-old woman who had been taken into custody by the morality police. The 54-member council, voted 29-8 to remove Iran from the Commission on the Status of Women for the rest of its term, which runs from 2022 to 2026. The United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, says removing Iran is the right thing to do.
