A community donation of $5000 will help purchase Wireless Ultrasound equipment at the Griffith Hospital.
Manjit Singh Khera, Treasurer, Gurdwara Singh Sabha Society, Griffith has thanked the local community and visitors who contributed towards the fundraiser at the annual Sikh games.
“This year’s annual Shaheedi Tournament was one of the biggest that we have seen in past. A fundraiser was also organised at the games venue to support Griffith Base Hospital.”
“We raised about $2000 at the games. The local Sikh community made additions to make a donation of $5000.”
“We are making these donations from last many years and we will keep doing this charity with the support of the local community and visitors who attend annual Sikh Games.”
Director of Nursing and Midwifery at Griffith Health Service, Meredith Whittaker told SBS that since 2006 the Sikh community has donated approximately $46,000 to Griffith Base Hospital.
“This money has been used to purchase vital equipment for our hospital,” said Ms Whittaker.
“The $5000 donation this year from the Sikh games is being put towards the purchase of a Wireless Ultrasound machine for the Operating theatre and our Intensive Care Unit at Griffith Base Hospital.”
“This machine assists doctors with the safe insertion of access lines for patients requiring this intervention among many other uses.”
“We remain very grateful for the annual donation from the Sikh community and feel honoured that they continue to support our hospital.”

“On a personal level it has been an absolute pleasure to meet and get to know members of the Sikh community.”
This year, over 15,000 people enjoyed the weekend of sports at the Shaheedi Tournament at Griffith.
Every June long weekend, the Sikh community hold a two-day event at Ted Scobie Oval against the backdrop of Scenic Hill in Griffith.
The annual meet is a representation of the Sikh community’s competitive spirit, an event that forms an integral part of the community’s social calendar.
