A news reporter has been left with a broken tooth after two men allegedly abused and punched him on 21st May in the Auckland suburb of Mount Albert.
Jaspreet Singh Rajpura, 30, a reporter of NZ Punjabi News said that he was ‘just doing his job’ when the attack happened.
Singh told SBS Punjabi that he went to the Unitec Institute of Technology building to cover a co-worker’s protest against the alleged abusive comments made by a migrant union representative.
“Our media organisation often raises voice against the unions for not doing enough as they promised before the elections.....For this reason, my fellow Tarandeep Singh was specifically targeted and abused in a whatsapp group conversation,” he said.
“At the time of this incident, Tarandeep was making a speech while I was covering it on my mobile camera.
“Two men approached and asked me to stop the Facebook ‘Live’ session. I was pushed and hit...the attackers broke my phone, punched me on my chin and broke my tooth." 
A live Facebook Video from the scene shows a group of men approaching Jaspreet and shout 'stop the recording' to which he replies ‘none of your business, I’ve no issues against you or anyone else’.

The men also made comments about NZ Punjabi News’ ‘credibility’ and ‘absurd reporting’.
A police spokeswoman told the Herald Sun that they received a complaint "relating to an alleged assault incident which is reported to have taken place on Monday [May 21]".
"Police have taken a statement from the victim and the matter is being followed up," the spokeswoman told the Herald Sun.
Mr Singh told SBS Punjabi that he is not looking for an apology but a strict action against the attackers.
“I am concerned about the violence that was directed against a journalist. Police must take action to stop it happening again.
Jaspreet is employed as a manager at NZ Punjabi News which is also claimed to be NZ’s first weekly Punjabi newspaper.
