A 21-year-old Indian student has been charged over a crash that killed an Indian national and injured two others on Monday afternoon in Perth.
66-year-old Gurbir Singh was visiting his son in Perth and was returning from a beach when the car he was travelling in along with his brother and nephew was crushed between two trucks.
Police is alleging that Amritpal Singh Sidhu was driving the truck that hit the Toyota Camry from behind as it stopped behind a truck near Jandakot in the south of Perth.
Mr Sidhu who is in Perth on a student visa faced court on Tuesday and was granted bail. He has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and two counts of dangerous driving causing bodily harm.
Emergency services toiled for nearly an hour on Monday afternoon to free the men from the wreckage of the car wedged between two trucks.
While Mr Singh died at the scene, his nephew Guneet Singh(22) who was driving the car, suffered a fractured leg and Mr Singh’s elder brother Daljit Singh suffered minor injuries.
Both the survivors were taken to Royal Perth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
An international student in Perth, Guneet Singh underwent a major surgery on Tuesday. He told his friends the truck in front of his car came to a stop in a line of traffic and his car was then hit from behind.
Gurbir Singh’s son Harpreet says he wishes the charged driver of the truck well.
“As I pray for my family, equally I pray for his family that they should also be able to live a decent life,” he told .
