Australia's Multicultural Affairs Minister wishes everyone a very Happy Holi

Australia's Minister of Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs, Alan Tudge has wished everyone 'peace happiness and prosperity' as they celebrate the 'exuberant festival of colours' Holi, on March 1.

In the message issued on the eve of Holi, the Minister said, "Occasions such as Holi are important as they promote a spirit of fun, friendship and cultural respect, building on the joy that diversity brings to Australian society". 

Mr Tudge added, 'Festivals like Holi also importantly help us to celebrate our religious and cultural heritage, which is an important part of being an Australian."

The statement released by the Minister said, "Holi is one of the most exuberant festivals in the Hindu calendar, celebrating inclusiveness, friendship and peace." 

He also noted that "More than 440,000 Hindus (or 2% of Australia's population) across Australia will join in the celebrations" this year, in the festival that will bring 'friends, strangers, Hindus and non-Hindus" together.
