Vande Bharat Mission: 25,000 people have travelled from Australia to India since May

25,000 stranded Indian nationals and OCI cardholders have travelled to India since May when the government of India launched its Vande Bharat Mission.

The Indian High Commission in Australia says 25,000 Indians have been repatriated from Australia.


Highlights:

  • 25,000 people have travelled from Australia to India since May.
  • 116 flights have been organised under Vande Bharat Mission so far.
  • Nine flights are available in December 2020.
 

"VandeBharatMission reaches a milestone in Australia. Till date, 25,000 stranded Indian nationals / OCIs safely repatriated through 116 Air India and charter flights from Australia," the Indian high commission tweeted.
The Aviation Ministry of India launched the Vande Bharat Mission to bring back Indians stranded around the world due to the Coronavirus lockdown.

According to India's Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, more than 3.3 million stranded people have been helped under Vande Bharat Mission since 6 May 2020.
"We reached out to our citizens stranded around the world due to conditions necessitated by the pandemic & launched Vande Bharat Mission, world's largest repatriation mission of its kind on 6 May 2020," said Mr Puri in a tweet.

Under this mission's seventh phase, nine flights have been announced for December.

India's national carrier, Air India, has announced nine flights from India to Australia, and a similar number of flights from Australia to India.

All these flights are between Sydney and New Delhi.
