Nil Battey Sannata, directed by Ashwini Iyer Tiwari, starring Swara Bhaskar, Ria Shukla, Ratna Pathak Shah and Pankaj Tripathi, didn’t appear anywhere on the radar with the likes of Fan, Baaghi and Sultan grabbing the headlines in the world of movies right now.
But this film, which released on 22nd April, has garnered huge word of mouth publicity. Right from Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, filmstars, politicians, journalists and film buffs, all have only one thing to say: What a great film, it is!
The movie is about Chanda who works as a house maid to send her daughter Apu to school. Like all mothers, she has dreams for her only child. But her daughter is happy with her bad marks at school.
The story shows how Chanda’s employers, a humane doctor helps both, mother and daughter get education.
The Indian Express says the film leaves you with a warm glow.
NDTV has called it A disarmingly simple and heart-warming film.
