Manmeet Alisher's funeral scheduled this Friday

Manmeet Alisher’s funeral will take place in his ancestral village in India on Friday.

His elder brother, Amit Alisher who is in Brisbane will be flying back with Manmeet’s mortal remains to India on Thursday.

His body will then be taken to his village, Sangrur in Punjab where his last rites will take place on Friday.

Manmeet’s body is kept at the funeral director’s office in Brisbane and will be flown to Melbourne later this afternoon.

The body will be taken to India by Air India flight on Thursday morning.

There’s been a huge outpour of community support for the family in Australia following Manmeet’s death.

Candle light vigil, memorial services and prayers have been held across major centres like Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide to pay tribute to Manmeet Alisher, who was a beloved member of the Indian community.
Manmeet was cruelly murdered last Friday when a 48-year-old former mental health patient threw an incendiary device on him while he was on duty as a bus driver in Brisbane.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken up this matter with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and expressed his concern.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull assured him that investigation was underway. Meanwhile, an independent review has been ordered to inquire into the mental health care that the accused received.

The independent review panel is expect to submit their report within eight weeks.
