An Indian international student, Gurjinder Singh has been jailed for raping a teenage girl in NSW.

Singh was found guilty in February of raping a 16-year-old girl in Woolgoolga after a two week trial at Coffs Harbour Local Court.

He was sentenced to four and a half years in prison, reports.

The court heard in February 2015, Singh was with his two friends and was drinking with three teenagers at a beach.

The group later travelled to a berry farm in Woolgoolga, where Singh raped the girl.

During the trial, the court heard Singh had engaged in sexual intercourse with the girl’s consent. The girl told the court she was heavily intoxicated and was falling in and out of sleep throughout the assault, the report stated.

Singh flew back to India the day after the incident despite being told police wanted to speak with him.

Two months later, upon his return, he was arrested in Queensland.

Singh was found not guilty on a second charge of assault in company.

He will be eligible for parole in January 2018.
