First glimpse into world's largest cricket stadium coming up in India

Being built in Ahmedabad, India, the stadium will have the capacity to accommodate over 110,000 spectators and will beat Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), which has the capacity of a little over 100,000 spectators.

India is building world’s largest cricket stadium by capacity which will soon beat Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia.

Once ready, the Sardar Patel Cricket stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad will seat over 110,000 spectators compared to MCG’s capacity to seat 100,024 people.

The stadium is being built across 63 acres of land at the cost of $155 million.

Gujarat Cricket Association vice-president Parimal Nathwani on Sunday tweeted pictures of the construction, in which he stated this is the dream project of the state cricket board and after its completion, it will become a symbol of pride for the nation.

The stadium will have a clubhouse with 50 to 55 rooms and an Olympic-size swimming pool.

It will also have three practice grounds for cricketers as well as an indoor cricket academy for providing coaching to young players.

The stadium's construction started in January 2017 and is likely to become operational sometime in 2019.
