Listen to Vasili''s, from Vasilis Garden, tips for growing horta in your garden or in pots.

Migrants used to get in trouble in the 50s and 60s when they were picking horta (aka edible weeds or wild greens) from public places holding a small knife and a bag. More than once they translated 'horta' as 'grass' to the perplexed Aussies who didn't know what to make of what they were hearing and seeing.

Fast forward five decades or so later and horta are very much in vogue. Often Aussies would ask for horta in Greek restaurants.

Horta are flavoursome and nutritious. They have many uses in the Mediterranean cuisine, especially in homemade Greek pies known as "hortopita".

Vasilis from Vasilis' Garden gives tips for growing horta in your garden. Vasilis' mother also contributes by telling us what horta she uses for her hortopita!
