Who are the Filipino artists that will hold concerts in Australia this 2024?

Filipino music artists are set to grace the stage in Australia in 2024. Here's what we know so far.

Original Pilipino Music (OPM) acts as a cultural bridge for Filipinos abroad, invoking a sense of nostalgia and connecting them to their roots.

However, the pandemic imposed restrictions, leading to the absence of Philippine artists holding concerts and leaving a void in the hearts of the Filipino community Down Under.

As, the concert scene revived, rekindling hopes for a resurgence of live OPM performances.

Here's a glimpse of the OPM artists' lineup for 2024, set to hold concerts in different parts of Australia:

Comedy Manila

Comedy Manila is a production house that produces quality comedy shows that feature local and foreign acts in the country. The Comedy Manila Australian Tour is featuring four of the Philippines’ top stand-up comedians: Red Ollero, James Caraan, GB Labrador, and Victor Anastacio.
  • August 30 - Bryan Brown Theatre, Bankstown, Sydney
Ryan Cayabyab

Mr C is known as one of the pillars of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), he says that while many OPM songs have Western influence we still manage to create songs with distinct Filipino sound. This September, after more than four years of planning Mr C and the Ryan Cayabyab Singers will return to Australia to perform.

Amy Reeves

2024 Australian Idol finalist Ms. Amy Reeves hails from Broome, Western Australia, and boasts a degree in singing from WAAPA. Joining her on stage are two extraordinary Filipina-Australian vocalists: Fasika Ayallew, a standout finalist from The Voice Australia 2017, and Trinity Young, who captivated audiences as a finalist on The Voice Australia in 2014.

Sarah Geronimo and Bamboo

Award-winning pop star Sarah Geronimo, celebrated for her hits "Tala," "Misteryo," "Forever's Not Enough," and "Maybe This Time," will join forces with rock icon Bamboo for an exciting concert tour. They will be joined by Australian Idol runner-up Amy Reeves.

Parokya ni Edgar

Also heading to Australia is Parokya Ni Edgar, the popular Filipino alternative rock band formed in 1993. The multi-award-winning band features Chito Miranda on lead vocals, Gab Chee Kee and Darius Semana on guitars, Buwi Meneses on bass, and Dindin Moreno on drums.

Parokya Ni Edgar is celebrated for their unique “novelty” hits, including fan favorites like “Mr. Suave,” “Buloy,” “Please Don’t Touch My Birdie,” “Inuman Na,” “Halaga,” “Picha Pie,” and “Harana.”

Gigi De Lana

Gigi De Lana and The Gigi Vibes captivated Australian audiences with their debut tour. Known for her powerful vocals and dynamic performances, former Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist, Gigi De Lana and her band captured global attention during the pandemic with their viral rendition of Roselle Nava’s “Bakit Nga Ba Mahal Kita.” Their covers of classics like “Through the Fire,” “Saving All My Love for You,” and “If Ever You’re in My Arms Again” further resonated with audiences, drawing in a dedicated following.

Apo Hiking Society

Apo Hiking Society is an icon in OPM with a career spanning five decades. Some of their popular hits include "Batang-Bata Ka Pa," "Ewan," "When I Met You," and "Panalangin."

With hits like "Basta't Kasama Kita" and "Maghihintay Sa'yo, "Dingdong Avanzado gained fame in the late 1980s and 1990s while Jessa Zaragosa has released several albums, and some of her popular songs include "Bakit Pa" and "Ibigay Mo Na."

Itchyworms
