On Friday, Australia reported at least 28 COVID-19 deaths, including nine each in New South Wales (NSW) and Victoria and seven in Queensland. Western Australia (WA) reported 11 historical deaths.
Victoria reported 571 people with COVID-19 in hospitals, its highest since 4 April. WA reported under 10,000 new infections for the first time in the past three weeks.
NSW reported 34 people with COVID-19 in ICUs, its lowest since 4 April.

South Australia is organising a Community Vaccination day on Saturday, 28 May. Some local Councils and the Australian Red Cross will provide free transport for people requiring assistance in getting to a COVID-19 vaccination clinic.
NSW Health recorded a 7.1 per cent decline in the PCR testing rate in its weekly report on COVID-19 and influenza. It said COVID-19 transmission was stable in the community, but influenza cases are rising across the state.
NSW Health asked people to monitor Legionnaires’ disease symptoms if they were in the Sydney CBD in the past ten days.
Five residents who contracted the bacterial disease had spent time in the CBD in the past three weeks. All five are being treated for pneumonia in hospitals.
Legionnaires’ disease symptoms include fever, chills, a cough, and shortness of breath. The symptoms can develop up to 10 days from the time of exposure.
