On Tuesday, Australia reported at least 104 COVID-19 deaths, including 44 in Victoria, 25 in New South Wales and 24 in Queensland.

South Australia's COVID compliance officers will remind bus, train and tram passengers about the face masks requirements on public transport over the next four weeks.

Officers can issue a written caution or a $1,000 fine for serious breaches.

Victoria to provide free three million N95 and KN95 masks to residents

through state-run testing sites, community health services and the public transport network.

The current COVID-19 wave peaked in Queensland on 25 July. The state chief health officer predicts the next wave in December.

From 15 August, Western Australia will scale back its COVID response from Red to Blue alert level. The move will free up frontline staff to return to clinical duties.

Australia reported nearly 10 million COVID-19 cases and 12,355 deaths in Australia as of 8 August. The Department of Health said the median age of all cases is 31 years, and the median age of deaths is 83 years.

New analysis shows COVID-19 was the third largest cause of death in 2022. It claimed more lives than cardiovascular diseases and lung cancer.
