COVID-19 update: New infections and hospitalisations continue to decline in Australia

On Monday, Australia reported at least 10 COVID-19 deaths, including six in Victoria and four in New South Wales.

New cases, hospitalisations and ICU admissions continue to decline across Australian states and territories.

Some jurisdictions are now reporting their lowest COVID-19 numbers since 4 April.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to release legal advice on his predecessor Scott Morrison, who secretly appointed himself to five portfolios during the pandemic.

NSW reported its first locally acquired monkeypox case over the weekend. The state currently has 42 cases, and the most infections have been reported in returned international travellers.

The Department of Health's figures showed 3,917 COVID-19 cases and 592 active outbreaks in residential aged care facilities as at 19 August.

The data further showed an increase of 148 total outbreaks and 92 new resident deaths since 12 August 2022.
Data from the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia shows that divorce applications jumped significantly during the first two years of the pandemic.

A total of 49,625 applications were received in 2020-21 compared with 45,886 in 2019-20 and 44,432 in 2018-19.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has tested positive for COVID-19.
