The Australian Federal Police have charged two Malaysian nationals for their alleged roles in fraudulently claiming COVID-19 Disaster Payments.

The AFP alleged the pair from Western Sydney were part of a 'fraud syndicate' that offered their services on social media to people who wanted help in getting their payments.

Some people paid up to $1,000 and provided identity documents to the 'agents' to facilitate their claims. The AFP investigation followed reports that payments approved for some legitimate recipients were being redirected to other bank accounts without their knowledge.
