COVID-19 update: 31,000 Australians call in sick daily due to long COVID; monkeypox cases drop globally

On Friday, Australia reported at least 62 COVID-19 deaths, including 25 in Victoria and 22 in New South Wales.

Adolescents (aged 12-17) can access the protein-based Novavax COVID-19 vaccine from 5 September.

Treasury data shared with News Corp papers showed an estimated 31,000 Australian workers are calling in sick every day because of long-COVID.

Australia is set to roll out Moderna's Spikevax vaccine for children under five from 5 September.

The Australian government said pregnant and breastfeeding women aged 30-49 can get their second booster dose.

However, it said the risk of severe disease is very low in women who have received three doses.

The number of monkeypox cases declined by 21 per cent after rising for four consecutive weeks, the World Health Organization said in its latest weekly report.

The US, Spain, Brazil, Germany, the UK, France, Canada, Netherlands, Peru and Portugal reported the highest monkeypox cases.
