新西兰北岛（North Island）发生 6.2 级强烈地震。

首都威灵顿有居民表示感受到震动。报道指，目前当地没有海啸威胁。

震央位于陶马鲁努伊（Taumarunui）以西南 25 公里位置，震源深度达 207 公里；当地地质科学研究组织 GeoNet 形容地震属「强震」。

费法斯媒体《stuff.co.nz》报道，GeoNet 接获至少15,000 宗震感报告。

《新西兰先驱报》报道，地震导致国会摄录机摇晃，「一段时间后」议长托利（Anne Tolley）决定暂停会议。

新西兰中部数以万计人表示，感受到震动。

身在当地的萨塞克斯公爵哈里王子及夫人梅根正身处北部奥克兰访问，报道指两人未受地震影响，亦未能感受到震动。

新西兰火警及紧急服务队伍表示，暂时未接获任何损毁报告。

GeoNet 表示，像今次既强烈且震源深的地震，一般会带来更少次数余震。
