Bangla is the second most spoken language in India after Hindi, says the latest Indian census conducted in 2011. The percentage of people in India who mentioned Bangla as their mother tongue rose to 8.3 percent of the total population from 8.11 percent. The percentage of population with Hindi as their mother tongue has risen to 43.63 percent from 41.03 percent.
