for feature photography this year. A Bangladeshi photographer Mohammad Ponir Hossain is part of the Reuters team that documented the Rohingya crisis in Myanmar and Bangladesh.

Ponir Hossain was honoured for shocking photographs that exposed the world to the violence Rohingya refugees faced in fleeing Myanmar.

“The extraordinary photography of the mass exodus of the Rohingya people to Bangladesh demonstrates not only the human cost of conflict but also the essential role photojournalism can play in revealing it,” Reuters Editor-in-Chief .

The photo taken by Ponir on August 31, 2017, five days after the latest chapter in the Rohingya crisis unfolded, showed the refugees trying to take shelter from torrential rain as they were held by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after illegally crossing the border in Teknaf.

Ponir has been working as a photojournalist for Thomson Reuters since July 1, 2016 and has previously worked for the ZUMA Press between 2015 and 2016, according to his .

Photos taken by him have been published in both national and international media.

The Pulitzers is the most prestigious awards in American journalism.
